Safer Recruitment Process

At Carers’ Hands, we are dedicated to safeguarding the well-being of our clients by recruiting trustworthy, compassionate, and competent staff. Our Safer Recruitment Process ensures that we select individuals who align with our values, meet high professional standards, and comply with CQC regulations, local authority requirements, and safeguarding laws.

Our Safer Recruitment Process Includes:

Comprehensive Application Screening

Applicants complete a detailed application form, outlining work history, qualifications, and references. Any gaps in employment are thoroughly explored during interviews.

In-Depth Interviews

Structured interviews assess competency, empathy, communication skills, and safeguarding awareness. Candidates' understanding of dignity, respect, and care values is also evaluated.

Enhanced DBS Checks (Disclosure and Barring Service)

All candidates undergo enhanced DBS checks to identify criminal records or safeguarding concerns. This ensures staff suitability to work with vulnerable adults.

Right to Work and Identity Verification

We verify each candidate’s right to work in the UK and confirm their identity through official documentation. This aligns with UK labour laws and safeguarding protocols.

Two Professional References

A minimum of two references is required, prioritising previous roles in care, healthcare, or relevant sectors. References are verified for authenticity.

Safeguarding and Mandatory Training

New recruits complete mandatory training in safeguarding, infection control, medication administration, and manual handling. Refresher courses are provided regularly to ensure staff remain compliant with the latest standards.

Health Declarations and Fitness to Work Assessments

All candidates complete a health declaration form and, where necessary, undergo a fitness-to-work assessment to confirm their ability to perform care duties safely and effectively.

Probationary Period and Supervision

New employees undergo a 3 to 6-month probationary period. During this time, performance is monitored through regular supervision, client feedback, and performance reviews.

Ongoing Monitoring and Development

We conduct regular performance reviews, spot checks, and appraisals to maintain high standards of care and identify areas for growth.

Whistleblowing and Reporting Procedures

Staff are encouraged to report safeguarding concerns or misconduct through our confidential whistleblowing policy. This ensures a culture of transparency and accountability.

At Carers’ Hands, we are proud to be an equal-opportunity employer. We are committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive workforce and making reasonable adjustments to ensure accessibility for all candidates.

If you require adjustments during the recruitment process or need additional support, please contact our recruitment team.
